Cycling in Traffic-Level 1. This 8-hour course is ideal for the cyclist looking for a comprehensive introduction into urban cycling. The heart of the League of American Bicyclists' strategy is predictability and awareness. Learn how to anticipate and avoid situations that result in common bicycle crashes. We will teach you how to effectively communicate with other road users through lane positioning, hand signaling and scanning and to prepare for your ride through a quick safety check and route planning. Gear shifting and bike fit will be covered to help you maximize your fitness. Students will graduate from course through written test. Bring your own bike and helmet and have the ability to ride in a straight line.

Cycling in Traffic-Level 2. Here is an unique opportunity for Level 1 graduates to beef up on their advanced level bike maintenance and learn more about riding in challenging conditions. The Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is allowing students to use their shop while learning how to diagnose bike parts' wear and mechanical worthiness, clean and lube bike chain and djust and replace brake and derailleur cables. You will find out how to eat and drink to increase fitness, ride on fast moving, hazardous and rural roads, at night and in various weather conditions. Students will graduate from the course through written exam. Bring your knowledge gained in Level 1, a working bicycle, front and rear lights and helmet.

Bicycle Commuting 101. Save money by leaving your car at home when you head to work. This course aims to prepare cyclists to transition into bicycle commuting. You will learn which bikes are designed for carrying cargo, how to plan your route to work, develop a back up plan and where to park. We'll show you how to verify your bike's mechanical safety before leaving the house and which tools to carry in your kit. After ride hygiene and work related considerations will be discussed. We will briefly discuss how to stay visible, dry and safe while riding in low light and rainy conditions.
